Today’s Brief Commentary:
This major quantum financial news this last week was Infleqtion raising $100 million in its Series C funding round. Congratulations to CEO Matt Kinsella and my friends and former colleagues at the company!
Speaking of investments, I’ve been heads-down recently updating the Sutor Group Intelligence and Advisory Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) Market Landscape that I first published in April. The next version will feature a no-charge Abridged Edition, similar to what you saw two months ago, and a significantly extended purchasable Premium Edition with additional data and charts.
In particular, the Premium Edition includes cross-references between companies and their investors. This information can be challenging to obtain and verify from public data, although some of it is available from services like PitchBook and Crunchbase, which I did not use. However, for companies that do have profiles there, I provide links.
Currently, I am tracking 84 QPU companies and their 354 investors.
At the same time I make the updated QPU report available, I will also release Abridged and Premium editions of our Quantum Computing Software Market Landscape. I’m tracking 109 companies across 24 countries with 18 types of software with 445 investors. I expect all these numbers to increase before publication.
Don’t forget to check out and bookmark our new sortable list of upcoming quantum technology conferences.
The latest Sutor Group report is freely available online: Quantum Processing Unit (QPU) Market Landscape (Abridged) – April 3, 2025. Updates and the full report are available for purchase or by subscription. Contact us for details.

Outshift | Unlocking the power of true randomness with Outshift’s Quantum Random Number Generator
Authors: Reza Nejabati and Jiapeng Zhao
Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Commentary: This is now a very busy commercial area. By my count, the following companies have offerings: Alea Quantum Technologies, BTQ Technologies, Cisco, ComScire, Crypta Labs, Cystel, Kets Quantum Security Ltd, QNu Labs, QRATE, Qrypt, Quantinuum, Quantropi, Quantum Computing Inc, Quantum Dice, Quantum eMotion, QuantumCTek, QuDoor, QuintessenceLabs, Quside, Random Power, S-Fifteen Instruments, Taqbit Labs, Terra Quantum AG, and Toshiba.
Excerpt: Outshift’s QRNG is built on quantum hardware developed by Cisco Research. Cisco’s quantum hardware turns the unpredictable nature of quantum mechanics into a reliable source of true randomness by tapping into quantum vacuum noise, the random energy fluctuations that exist even in “empty” space. We’ve developed an authentic QRNG source that directly generates randomness from quantum phenomena, eliminating the need to connect your solution through API calls to external QRNG providers. We’ve combined the power of quantum mechanics with cutting-edge technology to redefine how true randomness is generated.

Qubit breakthrough could make it easier to build quantum computers | New Scientist
Author: Karmela Padavic-Callaghan
Date: Wednesday, May 28, 2025
Excerpt: Similar qubit designs have been built before, but the new one is the first with “multimode encoding”. This means that the researchers used several of the photon’s properties at once to store information – an encoding method that makes that data more resilient to common quantum computer errors.
Nord Quantique claims error-correcting quantum physics breakthrough | Network World
Author: Maria Korolov
Date: Thursday, May 29, 2025
Commentary: I’m quoted.
Excerpt: Nord Quantique has announced what it calls a breakthrough in quantum physics that will make quantum error correction a bit better. Errors are the top obstacle today preventing the industry from having usable quantum computers, since the individual qubits are prone to mistakes and degradation.
