Quantum Error Correction/Detection and Dynamical Decoupling: Better Together or Apart?

Online (Live Seminar hosted by Quantum Machines)

Quantum Error Correction and Fault Tolerance | Technical“A live online seminar exploring how quantum error correction and dynamical decoupling can be combined for greater effect, presented by Prof. Daniel Lidar of the University of Southern California and co-founder of Quantum Elements, and hosted by Quantum Machines. The talk introduces a theoretical framework for predicting when combining the two techniques offers an advantage over using either alone, backed by two experiments run on IBM transmon hardware: one pairing logical decoupling with an error-detecting code to raise entangled-state fidelity above that of the unprotected physical qubits, and a second implementing a surface-code memory on heavy-hex hardware that shows measurable gains as the code distance is scaled up. The session aims to inform how error correction and decoupling are jointly designed for future fault-tolerant quantum systems.”
