I’m pushing this newsletter out on a Sunday because two big industry events are coming up this week. The first is the NVIDIA GTC AI conference in San Jose, California. It runs from Monday the 17st through Friday the 21st. Of note at the GTC are the Quantum Day Conference Sessions on Thursday. Speakers include executives from Atom Computing, AWS, D-Wave, Infleqtion, IonQ, Microsoft, NVIDIA, Pasqal, PsiQuantum, Quantinuum, Quantum Circuits, QuEra Computing, Rigetti, and SEEQC. The second event starts on Sunday the 16th and also goes through Friday. The former “March Meeting” of the American Physical Society (APS) is now called the APS Global Physics Summit. They expect 14,000 people in Anaheim, California, which is south of Los Angeles, north of San Diego, and home to Disneyland. Despite all the social media, the conference is not only about quantum computing but that commands a significant presence. Alas, I’m not going to either, but I will be in Santa Clara for a superb client quantum engagement. Expect a larger-than-usual number of press releases and announcements this week, Don’t forget to check out and bookmark my new sortable list of upcoming quantum technology conferences. https://www.calcalistech.com/ctechnews/article/rkk5ocpokl Author: Sophie Shulman Date: Tuesday, March 11, 2025 Excerpt: Qbeat, founded by Dr. Dorit Dor, Maya Racine Netser, and Joab Rosenberg, aims to invest in early-stage quantum startups in Israel and abroad, bridging the gap between research and commercialization. Author: Bob Sutor Date: Friday, March 14, 2025 Excerpt: On Thursday, March 13, 2025, D-Wave Quantum announced its financial results for the Q4 2024 quarter and 2024 fiscal year ending December 31, 2024 https://www.pasqal.com/news/pasqal-expands-access-to-quantum-computing-capabilities/ Date: Thursday, March 13, 2025 Excerpt: Pasqal, a global leader in neutral-atom quantum computing, today announced an integration with Microsoft’s services that will render cloud-based access to Pasqal’s technology. Now, customers of the Microsoft Azure Quantum cloud service can leverage Pasqal’s quantum computer, which uses neutral-atom technology and offers a range of analog quantum computational capabilities to solve complex computing issues. This opportunity enables wider accessibility of quantum technology through the Azure cloud. Date: Thursday, March 13, 2025 Excerpt: As part of the ARPA-E initiative, Infleqtion and its partners are working towards integrating quantum capabilities into real-world energy sector workflows. The group’s research will focus on: Developing quantum algorithms tailored for large-scale energy grid optimization and co-designed with Infleqtion’s neutral atom quantum computers. Collaborating with industry leaders, including ComEd/Exelon, to explore practical deployment pathways. Date: Tuesday, March 11, 2025 Commentary: This is essential for the future of quantum computing. Companies that do not network their devices will fail to meet the scale required for Practical Quantum Advantage. This is the chasm people would prefer not to discuss. Excerpt: Nu Quantum, the quantum entanglement startup, has been announced as a leader of one of Innovate UK’s Quantum Missions Pilot: Quantum Computing and Quantum Networks projects. Project HyperIon aims to accelerate the timeline to scaling quantum computers to utility size by demonstrating the performance of Nu Quantum’s Qubit-Photon Interface (QPI) technology, crucial for connecting nodes into a distributed quantum computer. The project will deliver a full system-level demonstrator of a first-of-its-kind QPI prototype for trapped ion qubits with a clear path towards integration with commercial Quantum Processing Units (QPUs) and robust foundry-compatible mass production. https://www.cqt.sg/highlight/2025-03-hybrid-quantum-classical-computing/ Date: Wednesday, March 12, 2025 Excerpt: Singapore has launched a new initiative to leverage the strengths of classical supercomputers and quantum computers working together. At the opening event of the SupercomputingAsia 2025 (SCA2025) conference on 11 March 2025, Guest-of-Honour and Minister for Digital Development and Information Mrs Josephine Teo announced the new Hybrid Quantum Classical Computing (HQCC 1.0) initiative in her speech. https://kashmirobserver.net/2025/03/14/quantum-and-ai-can-kashmir-emerge-as-a-deep-tech-hub/ Author: Aashiq Hussain Andrabi Date: Friday, March 14, 2025 Excerpt: The vision for Chinar Quantum AI is centered around the fact that we live in times where the economy is becoming a knowledge economy. There are emerging technologies like quantum computing, generative AI, the semantic web, and blockchain that are becoming pivotal to this global knowledge ecosystem. In these knowledge economies, knowledge centers and knowledge capital are going to be very important. So, we are setting up CQAI in a way that it capitalizes on knowledge and establishes research and innovation centers. https://arxiv.org/abs/2503.08626 Authors: Berezutskii, Aleksandr; Acharya, Atithi; Ellerbrock, Roman; Gray, Johnnie; Haghshenas, Reza; He, Zichang; Khan, Abid; Kuzmin, Viacheslav; Liu, Minzhao; ; …; and Alexeev, Yuri Date: Tuesday, March 11, 2025 Commentary: Tensor networks have become an import method for simulating quantum computers on classical systems. Excerpt: In the rapidly evolving field of quantum computing, tensor networks serve as an important tool due to their multifaceted utility. In this paper, we review the diverse applications of tensor networks and show that they are an important instrument for quantum computing. Specifically, we summarize the application of tensor networks in various domains of quantum computing, including simulation of quantum computation, quantum circuit synthesis, quantum error correction, and quantum machine learning. Finally, we provide an outlook on the opportunities and the challenges of the tensor-network techniques.Today’s Brief Commentary:
